Let’s check in:

While some dental problems are the result of sudden or unexpected trauma, the majority of issues creep up slowly over time. While bacteria slowly work to cause cavities and gum disease, the symptoms are often difficult to spot.

A routine checkup is an opportunity to identify these issues before they affect you. Examining your teeth allows us to detect the slightest changes that could spell trouble for your smile.

The more often you come, the quicker we’ll see things. And the earlier we catch a problem, the easier it is to reverse or treat it.

Prevention is always easier than the cure, so we’d rather detect an issue while it’s reversible than wait until you need a more comprehensive procedure.

Good to know

General dentistry questions.

Everything patients usually ask before starting their treatment. Can't see your question? We're happy to talk it through.

What does a general dental check-up involve at Bella Dental?

A comprehensive dental examination includes a thorough assessment of your teeth, gums, soft tissues, and bite. We’ll check for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and any other dental problems. We’ll also review your brushing and flossing technique and discuss any concerns you might have. Digital X-rays may be taken if necessary to assess areas we can’t see visually. The appointment typically lasts 30-45 minutes, and we’ll discuss any treatment needs and help you develop a preventive care plan tailored to your individual situation.

How often should I visit the dentist?

Most patients benefit from a check-up every six months, but this isn’t a one-size-fits-all recommendation. If you have a history of gum disease or are at higher risk of tooth decay, we might recommend more frequent visits, perhaps every three to four months. If your oral health is excellent and you maintain meticulous home care, annual check-ups might be sufficient. We’ll assess your individual risk factors and recommend a review interval that’s appropriate for you, rather than simply defaulting to the traditional six-month guideline.

Do you treat nervous or anxious dental patients?

Absolutely. Dental anxiety is incredibly common, and we’re experienced in helping nervous patients feel comfortable and in control. We’ll always work at your pace, explain everything before we do it, and give you the opportunity to ask questions. For patients with moderate anxiety, we can offer sedation options that help you relax whilst remaining conscious and able to respond. For very anxious patients or those undergoing longer procedures, we can arrange IV sedation or general anaesthetic at a specialist facility. Your comfort is a priority, and we’ll never make you feel embarrassed about being nervous.

What should I do in a dental emergency?

If you’re experiencing severe pain, significant swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, or have suffered dental trauma such as a knocked-out or broken tooth, please contact the practice immediately. We reserve emergency appointments each day for urgent cases. If you’ve knocked out a permanent tooth, try to place it back in the socket if possible, or keep it in milk and get to us within the hour. Time is critical for successful replantation. For out-of-hours emergencies, our answerphone will provide you with emergency contact information. We’ll always do our utmost to see emergency patients as quickly as possible.

Do you offer children’s dentistry at Bella Dental?

Yes, we welcome patients of all ages, including children. We believe early dental experiences shape a child’s attitude towards oral health for life, so we make children’s appointments positive and stress-free. We’ll introduce children gradually to the dental environment, explain everything in age-appropriate language, and never force treatment. We focus on prevention through dietary advice, fluoride application, and fissure sealants where appropriate. It’s never too early to bring your child. We recommend their first visit around their first birthday or when their first teeth come through, whichever happens first.

What can I do to prevent tooth decay and gum disease?

Prevention is built on three pillars: effective home care, sensible diet, and regular professional care. Brush twice daily for two minutes with a fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth daily with floss or interdental brushes, and limit sugary foods and drinks to mealtimes only. Attend regular hygiene appointments so we can professionally clean areas you can’t reach and identify problems early. Don’t smoke, and if you grind your teeth at night, wear a protective splint. These simple measures will dramatically reduce your risk of dental problems and help you keep your natural teeth for life.

Do you offer NHS dental treatment?

Bella Dental is a private dental practice, and we don’t currently provide NHS treatment. Private dentistry allows us to spend more time with each patient, use the highest quality materials and techniques, and provide a level of service and attention to detail that simply isn’t possible within NHS constraints. We believe this results in better outcomes and a more pleasant experience for our patients. We offer flexible payment plans to help make private dental care more accessible, and we’ll always discuss costs upfront before proceeding with any treatment.

What payment options are available at Bella Dental?

We accept all major credit and debit cards, bank transfers, and cash. For more expensive treatments, we offer flexible payment plans that allow you to spread the cost over several months, making dental care more manageable. We’ll provide you with a detailed, written treatment plan and estimate before starting any work, so you’ll always know exactly what to expect financially. We believe transparency about costs is essential, and we’ll never proceed with treatment without your full understanding and consent.

Do you offer a dental membership plan?

Yes, our membership plan costs £23 per month and includes two hygiene visits, one dental check-up, one emergency appointment per year, and 15% off all treatments.

What age should children first visit the dentist?

We recommend bringing children for their first dental visit by age one or when their first tooth appears. Early visits help establish good habits and allow us to monitor development.

Can you help with dental anxiety or phobia?

Absolutely. We are a phobia-friendly clinic with a warm, welcoming environment. Our team takes extra time and care with nervous patients to ensure a comfortable experience.

Do you offer weekend or evening appointments?

We offer flexible appointment times including same-day emergency slots. Contact our reception team to find a time that works with your schedule.
